Men's tennis defeats Anderson 7-2

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's tennis team gained a 7-2 victory against Anderson on Wednesday afternoon in Greenville.

Greenville started the match on top with a clean sweep of the doubles matches.

GU's No. 1 doubles team of Austin Burkhart and Mathew Rodriguez was an 8-5 winner. Tyler Blume and Luke Motsinger won 8-2 in No. 2 doubles, and Thibaut Tignee and Zach Merrill earned an 8-2 win in No. 3 doubles.

In singles, Greenville won the first four flights. Burkhart was a part of his second win of the day with a 6-3, 6-2 victory in No. 1 singles.

No. 2 Blume went three sets but won 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.

No. 3 Motsinger gained a 6-2, 6-2 win, and No. 4 Merrill took a 7-6, 7-6 win with each set reaching a tiebreaker.

The Panthers (9-6) will compete in the semifinals of the SLIAC tournament on Saturday against Webster. If they defeat Webster, Greenville will play the winner of Principia and Westminster for the championship.
