Men's tennis qualifies for another SLIAC championship match, falls 5-0 to Principia

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The men's tennis team qualified for the SLIAC championship match against Principia for the sixth straight time spanning seven years and fell 5-0 on Saturday afternoon to give Principia its seventh consecutive title.

The championship match was played at SIU Edwardsville, and GU was not able to win a match. Their closest match was in No. 2 doubles, and Tyler Blume and Luke Motsinger fell 8-6.

Motsinger also fell 6-2, 6-4 in No. 3 singles.

When the match was ended, Mathew Rodriguez had taken the first set 7-6 in No. 4 singles and was trailing 4-2 in the second set.

The Panthers qualified for the championship match with a 5-1 win over Webster in Belleville. The Panthers only lost against the Gorloks in No. 1 doubles.

Greenville won 8-3 in No. 2 doubles with a victory from Blume and Motsinger, and Thibaut Tignee and Zach Merrill won 8-0 in No. 3 doubles.

Motsinger gained a 6-0, 6-3 win for GU in No. 3 singles. No. 5 Merrill was a 6-0, 6-1 winner against Webster, and No. 6 Matt Lehr shut out Webster 6-0, 6-0.

The Panthers concluded their season with a record of 10-7, their ninth consecutive season with a winning record.
