WINONA LAKE, Ind. - The NCCAA is pleased to announce Greenville University's Nathan Potts as its 2018 Men's Outdoor Track & Field Wheeler Award recipient. Potts is a senior from St. Peters, Mo.

As a Greenville University mid-distance runner, Potts qualified for the 800, 1500, 4x800, and 4x400 events at the NCCAA national championships. He is a part of the school record-holding team in the 4x800.

An NCCAA national champion as a member of Greenville's winning 4x800 relay team in 2017, he was also on the 4x800 team that placed third in 2016 and fourth in 2015.

His success has not been limited to outdoor track events. He was a three-time NCCAA indoor national champion in the 4x800 in 2016 and 2017 and the distance medley relay in 2018. He was the national runner-up in the indoor 800 in 2018.

He currently holds the school's top time in the indoor 600, indoor 4x800, and indoor DMR.

Potts is a natural leader in many areas of the program. He took ownership of team study halls and is the program's best recruiter. The group of 800 meter runners is the best in the NCAA Division III, and it is a by-product of his leadership.

"In my 23 years of coaching at Greenville, I can name only one other person who has contributed to our program at the level Nathan has," said head coach Brian Patton. "I often consider Nathan more of an assistant coach than I do a student-athlete because of his dependability and input."

The high level of Christian character and service that he displays inspires his teammates. He helps lead team Bible studies and promoted the Alpha program for students seeking a knowledge of Christ and new relationship with Him. His teammates voted him as the student-athlete to represent them on the conference's All-Sportsmanship team.

Academically, Potts holds a GPA of 3.93 with a double major in Accounting and Business Management. He has been on the Dean's List for four years.

Potts becomes the third male recipient of the NCCAA Wheeler Award from Greenville and its first since Beau Meredith in 2004.
