Men's track and field wins fourth straight SLIAC title

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's track and field team extended its streak of conference championhips to four with a win in the 2021 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Track and Field Championship meet. The Panthers piled up a conference record 348 total points, winning by 224 points, also a conference record.

The Panthers won 13 different events over the weekend.

Carson Rantanen won two events himself, the 100-meter and 200-meter dash. With his pair of golds, Rantanen was named the SLIAC Track Athlete of the Year.

The Panthers were dominant in the middle and long distance events with Lukas Baird winning the 1500-meters, Gianni Estrada the 5000-meters, and Isaiah Atkins the 10,000-meters.

Jeremiah Perry took first in the 3000-steeplechase while the team of Di'Mond Salmond, Carson Rantanen, Dylan Webster, and Hunter Matthews won gold in the 4x100 relay.

Matthews also claimed gold in the high jump while Webster added gold in the pole vault, setting a new championship event mark at 13 feet-11.25 inches.

Salmond added a gold in the triple jump while Maurice Radtke (shot put) and Turjon McLaurin (discus) started collecting gold for the Panthers in the throwing events.

Justin Miller wrapped up the golds for Greenville, winning the javelin and earning SLIAC Field Newcomer of the Year.

Joshua Medlin was named the SLIAC Track Newcomer of the Year after his second place finish in the 800 meter run and leg on the 4x400 relay team.

The Panthers will head to Indiana State on Friday for a meet.
