Men's volleyball splits Saturday matches

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The men's volleyball team halted a four match skid with a five set win over Illinois Tech on Saturday.  In the day's opening match, the Panthers fell to conference foe Lakeland in three sets.

Greenville's day started with a 25-21, 25-17, 25-17 loss to Lakeland.

Manuel Benitez totaled 15 kills, but had 10 errors, as his hitting percentage was .122.

Andrew Johnson had six kills without an error and joined teammate Peter Binder with seven digs.

Greenville's efforts at the net were led by Benitez and Johnny Milabu who each had two assisted blocks.

The second match went back and forth as Greenville came out ahead by a 25-22, 23-25, 25-23, 30-32, 15-10 score.

Benitez set a season-high with 29 kills and only seven errors as he hit over .400.

Milabu joined Benitez with a hitting percentage over .400 as Milabu posted 12 kills and just two errors.

Binder led Greenville's defensive front with 15 digs, and Milabu had two solo blocks and five block assists.

The Panthers (4-8, 1-7 MCVL) go north to Carthage to face the No. 5 Redmen on Friday.
