Men's volleyball defeated by Fontbonne in five

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The men's volleyball team traveled to St. Louis on Tuesday night and were defeated in five sets.  The Panthers led by two sets and had opportunities in the third and fifth sets to avenge an earlier season loss to Fontbonne, but they could not convert their attacks into points.

Greenville won the first two sets by identical 25-23 scores.  In the third set, the score stood at 22-21 in favor of the Panthers, but Fontbonne rattled off five of the next seven points to stay alive.

The fourth set went to the Griffins 25-17, and Greenville led 13-11 in the tiebreaking final set before Fontbonne collected the last four points and the win.

Manuel Benitez was a major force for Greenville's offense. He piled up 28 kills, missing his career high by one, as he hit at a .276 clip.

Tanner Smith collected a season high 51 assists as he fell short of his career high by five.

The Panthers' Isaiah Canales and Kyle Ward added five block assists as they defended the net, and Andrew Johnson led a group of four teammates that had more than 10 digs.  Johnson had 13 digs.

The Panthers (6-15, 1-14 MCVL) go to Lakeland in Wisconsin for a match on Thursday night.
