Softball splits season opener at Brescia

OWENSBORO, Ky. -- The softball team began their 2017 season on Friday at Brescia and dropped the first game 5-2 before storming back to take a 22-6 win in a shortened second game.

Brescia took the early lead in the first game, putting a run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second.

The Lady Panthers answered in the top of the third as Kate Jolliff's two run double plated Josie Koontz and Tiffany Samsoe.

Those two runs were all Greenville could muster as Brescia regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third and two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Becca Oldham threw 3.2 innings for Greenville and picked up the loss as she allowed five runs, four earned.

Game two was all Greenville from the beginning as a 14 run first inning knocked out Brescia's starting pitcher and sparked them to a win.

Samsoe went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI.  Jolliff was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and five RBI.

Amanda Atteberry posted a 4-for-5 outing with four runs scored and three RBI.
