Softball grabs two SLIAC wins; Anderson records 17 strikeout, one hitter

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The softball team began their journey through SLIAC conference action with a pair of wins against Blackburn.  Greenville used a dominating 17 strikeout one-hitter from pitcher Brianna Anderson to take a 2-0 win in game one, followed by a 4-2 win in game two.

The Lady Panthers got both runs in game two on a two-run double by Tiffany Samsoe.

Anderson struck out the side in the first, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings on the way to her total of 17 strikeouts.

Anderson held a no-hitter through 6.1 innings, ended by a double by Blackburn's fourth place hitter.

The second game saw Greenville fall behind 1-0 in the top of the second before the Lady Panthers scored two runs in the bottom of the second on an error on a ball hit by Elizabeth Hawkins that allowed two runs.

Blackburn tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the third.  Greenville added two more runs in the bottom of the third with Becca Oldham's two-run double.

Kaitlyn Johnson was the winning pitcher as she improved to 3-1.  Johnson relieved with 3.1 innings of scoreless softball as she limited Blackburn to one hit and three walks.

Anderson came back into the game in the seventh inning to gain the save after runners reached second and third base.

The Lady Panthers (9-8, 2-0 SLIAC) travel to Eureka for a doubleheader on Monday at 2 p.m.
