Softball falls shorts versus No. 9 Luther

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The softball team lost in both ends of a doubleheader against No. 9 Luther on Saturday as they took a 14-1 loss in five innings in game one, followed by an 8-2 loss in game two.

In game one, Greenville fell behind 1-0 after the first, 7-0 after two, and 10-0 after three innings as Luther controlled the game.

Greenville added their single run in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Cayla Speaks.

The Panthers were the visitors in the second game, and took the immediate upper edge.  On the first pitch of the game, Jordyn Wieland pushed a bunt single to the third baseman who threw the ball down the right field line for a three base error and allowed Wieland to circle the bases.

The lead was short-lived as Luther tied the game in the bottom of the first.

Luther added four runs in the third inning and two in the fourth before Greenville could score again.

In the Panther half of the fifth inning, Speaks delivered her second RBI double of the day to make the score 7-1.

Luther later tacked on a sixth inning tally.

Despite the score, Kate Jolliff Rosado and Becca Oldham each had two hits for the Panthers.

Mackenzie Jackson threw all six innings in the circle and permitted eight runs, five earned, in the complete game effort.

The Panthers (2-10) face Wisconsin Platteville and Loras on Friday in a doubleheader at 10 a.m.
