Softball slams Westminster in doubleheader sweep

FULTON, Mo. - The softball team collected a total of 24 runs to demolish Westminster in their doubleheader on Monday evening. The Panthers beat the Blue Jays 13-2 in five innings in game one and 11-2 in six innings in game two. 

In the first game, Greenville got a quick jump on Westminster with six runs in the top of the first. They continued to tack on runs throughout the game, only allowing the Blue Jays to score once in the third inning and again in the fifth. 

Natalee Moore, the cleanup hitter for the Panthers, led the team at the plate, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs. 

Emma Williams and Madi Case showcased their speed on the bases having two stolen bases each. 

Starting in the circle for the Panthers, Sydnee Garrett collected her ninth win on the season. Garrett had five strikeouts and only one walk. 

Greenville started game two a little slower, only scoring one run in the second inning. Then, in the bottom of the third, Westminster took a 2-1 lead. The Panthers regained their lead in the top of the fifth with eight runs and added two more in the sixth inning to end the game early. 

Moore had another impressive game with a 2-for-4 appearance, one run, and three RBIs. 

Valerie Greenley started on the mound in game two and threw for the first 3.2 innings. Melissa Bernal relieved her in the fourth inning, shutting out the Blue Jays and earning the win. 

Sarah Salas had an excellent day at the plate for the Panthers. Salas hit two home runs and had five RBIs. In game one, she hit a two-run homer over the right field fence and knocked a 3-run bomb over in game two. 

The Panthers (21-5, 4-2 SLIAC) move to fourth in the conference standings and will face a non-conference opponent in their next matchup. They travel to Arkansas to play Crowley's Ridge College on Saturday at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
