Softball splits doubleheader at Fontbonne

ST. ANN, Mo. - The softball team split another conference doubleheader, leaving them at fourth place in the current conference standings. They took game one against Fontbonne 4-0 and lost game two 1-0.

Greenville quickly gained the lead in the first game, scoring three runs in the top of the first. After Josie Grunloh and Natalee Moore reached first base on an error and a walk, Sydnee Garrett knocked them in with a three-run homer over the centerfield fence. The Panthers added an insurance run in the seventh inning to secure the 4-0 win.

Garrett led the team offensively with her three RBIs, but Grunloh also had a good game offensively. Grunloh went 2-for-4 with an RBI, a run, and one stolen base.

The Panthers had Garrett in the circle for all of game one. She shut out the Griffins, only allowing two hits the whole game.

The second game was a much closer fight for the Panthers and Griffins. Unfortunately, GU couldn't come back from Fontbonne's single run in the third inning.

Destiny Dunlap led the Panthers at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double in the fourth inning.

Valerie Greenley and Garrett split time on the mound for game two. Greenley started, throwing four strikeouts and only allowing four hits. Garrett took over in the fourth inning and only gave up one hit. However, Greenley received the loss despite her efforts.

The Panthers (25-7, 6-4 SLIAC) host Blackburn at home on Friday at 4:00 and 6:00 p.m.
