EUREKA, Ill. -- The women's basketball team sent a message to first place Eureka on Saturday as the Lady Panthers won 66-64 to stay in second place in the SLIAC standings.

Greenville and Eureka played to nine ties and 12 lead changes Saturday. Neither team led by more than eight points.

The Panthers led 13-12 after one quarter. Neither side led by more than a possession in the second quarter. Kelly Lenz made two free throws to break a 29-29 tie with 2:30 left in the half, as both sides were scoreless over the remainder of the frame for a 31-29 GC lead at the break.

GC opened the second half with a 10-4 surge, claiming its biggest advantage of the game on Lenz's layup for a 41-33 cushion. GC held a 50-47 lead after three quarters.

The Red Devils managed to pull even at 62-62, but Laura Goodnight answered with a 3-pointer to lead 65-62 with 1:56 left.

Wesley Woodard was the top scorer in the game with 18 points.  Lenz added 12 points, and Morgan St. James had 10.

Meredith Crosier joined Goodnight and Lenz with seven rebounds.  Goodnight had three steals and two blocked shots.

The Lady Panthers (16-8, 11-4 SLIAC) host Blackburn on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the final game of the regular season.
