Women's basketball clinches second SLIAC regular season championship

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The women's basketball team clinched their first SLIAC regular season championship since 1996-97 with a 71-58 win against Spalding on Wednesday night.

Greenville trailed 22-17 after one period but rallied in the second quarter to outscore Spalding 16-14. Spalding held a 36-33 halftime advantage.

The Panthers took the lead in the third quarter but needed a buzzer beating basket by Wesley Woodard to tie the score at 51-all heading into the fourth quarter.

Greenville dominated the fourth period, outscoring Spalding 20-7 for the win.

Maria Reinhard was the leading scorer for Greenville as she posted a 16-point game.

Woodard managed to come up with 11 points and seven rebounds, and Megan Barrett had a nice outing with 10 points.

Kelly Lenz was all over the defensive end of the floor as she collected eight rebounds. Laura Goodnight provided four blocks.

The Panthers (19-5, 14-1 SLIAC) will host Webster on Saturday on Senior Day. Before the game, Greenville will honor its seniors, but it will not be the final home game for the Panthers as they will host the SLIAC tournament on Friday and Saturday, February 23 and 24.
