Women's soccer advances to SLIAC semis with 1-0 win

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The women's soccer team kept their winning streak going with a 1-0 shutout win over Spalding in the SLIAC quarterfinals on Monday afternoon.

The Panthers were outshot 13-7 in the match, but they cashed in on one of their two shots on goal when Molly McDonnell recorded a goal in the 57th minute of the match with an assist from Emma Cadwell.

McDonnell had three of GU's seven shots and both of Greenville's shots on frame.

Greenville played a much more physical game than Spalding, being whistled for eight fouls while Spalding only picked up three.

Greenville goalkeeper Grace Gehner faced five shots on goal, and she was able to rise to the occasion in collecting her second shutout of the season.

The Panthers (7-4) will enter Wednesday SLIAC semifinal looking to avenge an earlier season loss to the undefeated Fontbonne squad. Kickoff on Wednesday is at 7:30 p.m.
