Women's track and field secures three NCCAA national titles

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The women's track and field team was led by the efforts of the NCCAA field athlete of the meet Cayden Sharp as they were fourth at the NCCAA nationals on Friday and Saturday.

Sharp was the winner of the Pentathlon and Triple Jump, and Deborah Cunningham was the winner in the weight throw. The two gave Greenville three national championships.

Sharp had a score of 2899 to lead the competition in the Pentathlon, and her mark of 10.8 meters (35 feet-5.25 inches) won the triple jump.

Cunningham's distance was 15.12 meters (49-7.25) in the weight throw.

Other GU NCCAA All-Americans were Sharp in the long jump and Ashley Edmond in the pole vault. Sharp reached 5.30 meters (17-4.75) in the long jump, and Edmond cleared 2.89 meters (9-5.75)

The Panthers will compete at the SLIAC indoor championships next weekend.
