Sharp leads women's track and field with five titles

ELSAH, Ill. - The women's track and field team ended in the runner up position at the first St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference indoor women's track and field championship on Saturday with seven conference championships earned by its student-athletes.

Cayden Sharp was the star for Greenville, earning conference wins in the 60 meter dash (8.03 seconds), 200 meter dash (26.65 seconds), 60 meter hurdles (9.44 seconds), high jump (1.57 meters), and triple jump (10.55 meters).

Sharp also finished second in the long jump. Her point total of 58 was higher than the third and fourth place teams combined.

The distance medley relay comprised of Hannah Williams, Desiree Lesicko, Victoria Dyson, and Kori Nesbit produced a time of 14:00.56 and won the title by over five seconds.

Deborah Cunningham provided a throw of 14.79 meters in the weight throw to take the championship.

Tawny Rodriguez provided noteworthy results in the shot put and weight throw. Her mark of 41 feet in the shot put bettered her previous high by two feet, four inches, and her distance of 46 feet-5 inches in the weight throw was four and a half feet longer than her previous best of 41-11.

The Panthers accrued 149 team points. Additionally, the team had 19 season bests and 15 lifetime bests.

Webster won the team title with 212 points.

Greenville had two individual award winners. Sharp earned the track athlete of the meet award, and Rodriguez was the field newcomer of the year.

The Panthers will transition to the outdoor season which begins following spring break.
