Women's volleyball opens with two victories

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- The women's volleyball team grabbed a pair of non-conference wins in matches against Anderson and Earlham on Friday.  Greenville defeated Anderson 25-19, 25-14, 25-16 before topping Earlham 25-22, 22-25, 15-25, 25-20,15-9.

In the opening match, Greenville received a balanced offensive attack with no player exceeding more than seven kills.  Sarah Watts led Greenville in kills with seven, closely followed by Allyson Mitchell with six.

Greenville's play at the net was noteworthy as Abby Freeman tallied two solo blocks and three block assists, and Brittni Bell had two solo and two assisted blocks.

The match against Earlham saw Greenville fall behind 2-1 before collecting wins in the final two sets.

Mitchell posted the team high with 13 kills, followed by Freeman with 11.

Bell picked up six block assists.

Allyson Grabowski and Whitney Nichols came up with 11 digs each.

The Panthers (2-0) will face Culver-Stockton and Knox on Saturday.
