Women's volleyball drops Saturday matches at Emory

ATLANTA, Ga. - The women's volleyball team concluded their trip to Georgia with two losses at Emory on Saturday. Greenville opened the day with a 25-18, 25-22, 25-12 loss to Covenant, and they finished with a highly competitive five set setback by Centre.

Mia Bonacorsi and Anna Beth Vancil were GU's top performers on the attack in the match against Covenant. Bonacorsi tallied eight kills, and Vancil posted seven. Kaitlin Murray finished on top in assists with 11.

Greenville's defense was paced by Chasity Hill with 12 digs and Vancil who posted three block assists.

GU hit the best in set one, totaling 13 kills and four errors in 31 attempts for a rate of .290.

Greenville's final match of the trip left a disappointing taste in their mouth when they suffered a 25-17, 21-25, 25-16, 17-25, 15-9 loss in a match that alternated the winner of the set.

GU had a high hitting percentage of .208 in the fourth set when they piled up 13 kills and three errors in 48 attempts.

Bonacorsi set a team season-high with nine kills, and Murray provided 17 assists.

Hill was an effective server with two service aces and consistently strong in the back with 17 digs. Hill led a group that included four players with 11 or more digs.

Abby Grohmann provided 16 digs, Amanda Hollis had 14 digs, and Bonacorsi came one kill short of a double-double with 10 digs.

Lainey Hicks was regularly a part of blocks with six block assists.

The Panthers (0-3) will seek their first win of the season against Illinois College on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
