Women's volleyball defeats Monmouth, falls to Elmhurst

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The women's volleyball team split Friday's matches at North Central College. Greenville won the first match over Monmouth (Ill.) in four sets, 25-20, 25-14, 21-25, 25-21, and then lost 25-22, 25-13, 25-20 to Elmhurst.

The Panthers featured a balanced offensive attack in the first match. Four players - Mia Bonacorsi, Anna Beth Vancil, Laneisha Lott, and Abby Grohmann - all finished with 12 or more kills. Bonacorsi was GU's leader with 14 kills.

Kaitlin Murray and Emma Ratermann led GU with 28 and 17 assists, respectively.

A quartet of Bonacorsi, Chasity Hill, Ratermann, and Grohmann all provided double-doubles. Bonacorsi added 11 digs to her 14 kills, and Hill had a combination of 14 digs and 10 assists.

Grohmann contributed 12 kills and 19 digs, and Ratermann posted 10 digs and 17 assists.

GU's second match against a talented Elmhurst team presented challenges.

The Panthers were held to a hitting percentage of .069 with 22 kills. Bonacorsi again led GU with eight kills.

Bonacorsi and Mia deJesus each had one solo block and two block assists.

The Panthers (2-4) will continue the tournament on Saturday with matches against Nebraska Wesleyan and North Central.
