The Greenville women's cross country team placed second at the SLIAC championships on Saturday.

After Webster's third runner crossed the finish line, Greenville placed the next six runners with Gretchen Carie leading the way and giving the Panthers a chance at defending their championship.

Carie, Hannah Williams, Olivia Mansfield, Emma Leonhard, and Keiko Palen comprised Greenville's team score of 35.

With three Webster runners in the top five spots and all six Greenville runners across the line, the conference title would be decided on the next three Gorloks order of finish. Webster had the 12th and 13th place finishers, so it came down to Webster's number five runner that gave the Gorloks the title.

The Panthers will next compete in an intra-squad on November 5 as they train for the NCAA Division III regional on November 13.
