Baseball completes Georgia trip with doubleheader loss

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The baseball team lost a pair of games on Saturday in Georgia. The Panthers fell 12-6 to Rhodes in their first game and dropped a 6-1 game to Berry in the second game.

The Panthers slipped behind Rhodes in the first game and faced a 5-0 deficit after two innings.

Greenville recorded two runs in the third, one in the fourth, one in the seventh, and two in the eighth inning.

GU's two runs in the third inning tightened the score to 5-2, and the teams traded runs in the bottom of the third and top of the fourth to make the game 6-3.

Rhodes added distance with a three-run sixth, one run in the seventh, and two runs in the eighth innings.

Andrew Torbeck managed a 3-for-4 hitting performance, and Ryan Taylor and Joe Wood each had two hits. Wood tallied two RBI.

Klaiton Wolff started on the mound and allowed six runs, five earned, in five innings to be tagged with the loss. Jaxen Gibson permitted four runs, three earned in two innings, and Hunter Cullum allowed two in one inning.

In game two, the Panthers could only muster five hits and committed five errors in Berry's win.

Sam Alender started on the hill and permitted five runs, four earned in four innings.

Austin Rexroad threw three innings, allowing one unearned run, and Braden Maltbie threw a scoreless inning.

Greenville received an RBI double from Wood in the seventh inning.

The Panthers (0-3) return to action on Friday when they host Cornell College. The location has not been officially announced.
