AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The baseball team split a pair of games in their spring break opening doubleheader against WPI on Monday at Lake Myrtle Park.

In game one, the Panthers erased a 2-0 first inning deficit with a run in the fourth and four runs in the fifth to establish a 5-2 lead. WPI scored a run in the bottom of the seventh during a late rally.

In the fourth inning, a leadoff single by Klaiton Wolff kickstarted the Panther bats that eventually pushed a run across the plate with an RBI single by Joe Wood.

Andrew Torbeck started the fifth inning for GU with a hit and stole second base, going to third on an errant throw by the catcher. After a walk to Ryan Taylor and a wild pitch that sent him to second base, Wolff had a hit to the pitcher that scored Torbeck from third.

Soon thereafter, Landon Mokris stepped to the plate with one out and the bases loaded and came up with a two run double.

Grant Carman ended the scoring with a sacrifice fly.

After giving up two runs in the first inning, Panther starting pitcher Sam Alender settled down and worked six innings, giving up three runs on six hits. He yielded the mound to Logan Murphy who notched a save with a scoreless inning.

Mokris finished 3-for-4 for GU, and Wolff went 2-for-4.

In game two, the Panther bats went silent with just one hit by Wolff, and Greenville lost 13-0.

WPI had a pair of five-run innings to put the game out of reach.

Austin Rexroad started on the mound and gave up six runs, four earned, over 2 2/3 innings and was saddled with the loss.

Parker Lutz and Hunter Cullum delivered scoreless innings of relief.

The Panthers (1-8-1) play Oneonta on Tuesday in Winter Haven, Fla.
