Baseball finishes Florida trip with 6-2 win

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The baseball team finished their 5-1 spring trip with a 6-2 victory against Loras on Friday.

Loras went on top 2-0 in the top of the third, but Greenville got an RBI single from Ty Maxie to cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the third.

In the bottom of the fifth, GU tied the game when Ryan Taylor hit a ball to second base that was misplayed.

The Panthers took their first lead in the bottom of the seventh when Clarence Falls reached as a hit batsman, stole second, and scored after two wild pitches. Sam Hodges later delivered an RBI single.

In the bottom of the eighth, Greenville gave themselves a cushion after Andrew Torbeck scored on an error and Maxie provided another RBI single.

Sam Alendar was the starting pitcher and gave up two runs in four innings, striking out two.

Parker Lutz, Braden Maltbie, Hunter Cullum, Austin Rexroad, and Klaiton Wolff all threw a scoreless inning. Cullum was credited with the win, and Wolff had the save.

Maxie managed to go 3-for-4. Torbeck was 2-for-4 with three runs scored.

The Panthers (5-8-1) will have their season suspended through at least April 5 as a result of Greenville University's cancellations related to the COVID-19 coronavirus.
