Baseball takes one of two at home against Iowa Wesleyan

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The baseball team split Saturday afternoon's doubleheader with Iowa Wesleyan, winning 19-13 in game one before dropping game two by a 10-5 final.

The Panthers scored in every inning of the first game, piling on 13 runs in the first three innings and taking a 13-2 lead. Facing a 16-5 deficit in the top of the sixth, Iowa Wesleyan scored four times in both the sixth and seventh innings to tighten the final score.

Drew Frey went 3-for-4 for GU in game one with four runs scored and one RBI.

Landon Mokris was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Tanner Gerdes and George Schneider each drove in three runs.

Luke Fleener was the winning pitcher, completing five innings and allowing five runs on nine hits while striking out five.

In game two, the Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second, but IWU scored five times in the third and three times in the fourth to go on top 8-2. The Panthers could get no closer than four over the rest of the game.

Aaron Klar finished 2-for-3 in the game with a run scored.

Gerdes posted a 2-for-4 batting line with a run scored and two RBI.

Parker Lutz drew the start and gave up five runs in three innings while being tagged with the loss.

Chad Plath finished the game with three scoreless innings.

The Panthers (3-10, 3-1 SLIAC) will return to action at Spalding on April 2.
