Baseball leaves Kentucky with doubleheader loss

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The baseball team fell to Spalding in a doubleheader on Saturday. Greenville lost the first game 3-0 and the second game 8-2.

In game one, Spalding held Greenville to just one hit, and Spalding scored single runs in the first, third, and fifth innings.

Starting pitcher Luke Fleener pitched the complete game, hurling all six innings and giving up all three runs on six hits.

Landon Mokris went 1-for-3 for Greenville.

In game two, Spalding took an 8-2 win, but Greenville struck first with an RBI single from Austin Lawrence in the top of the second.

Spalding tied the game in the bottom of the second and went ahead 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth. In the bottom of the fifth, Spalding took a 6-1 lead, and they extended the lead to 8-1 in the bottom of the sixth.

Drew Frey scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh.

GU's George Schneider managed to produce a 2-for-4 performance in the batter's box.

Tanner Gerdes scored Greenville's first run.

Ian Wilson gave up three runs on five hits and four walks in three and one-third innings.

The Panthers (3-14, 3-5 SLIAC) will travel to Fontbonne for a doubleheader on Friday at 4 p.m.
