Baseball falls to nationally ranked Webster

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The baseball team dropped a pair of 11-0 eight-inning decisions to Webster on Friday night. In game one a late two-out double by Tanner Gerdes broke up a no-hitter by Webster starter Matt Mulhearn, and the Panthers recorded two hits in the night cap.

In game one, Jaxen Gibson started on the mound and pitched into the seventh inning, giving up six runs on nine hits. He was relieved by Luke Rushik, Braden Maltbie, and Seth Burnham. Rushik allowed one run in one-third of an inning, Maltbie gave up four runs, two earned on one hit, and Burnham provided a scoreless two-thirds of inning.

Game two was similar to game one with Webster building an early lead. In game two, Greenville totaled two hits, one coming from Dustin Sutton and the other from Gerdes.

Lucas Teel provided four and one-third innings on the hill, permitting nine runs, six earned on 10 hits. Craig Oertel entered the game in the fifth and went one and two-thirds innings without allowing a run. Caleb Babb ended the game on the mound for the Panthers with two innings.

The Panthers (4-19, 4-10 SLIAC) host Webster on Saturday in the conclusion of their weekend series.
