CARLINVILLE, Ill. - The baseball team swept Blackburn in a pair of games on Saturday to keep themselves in the fifth place position in the SLIAC standings and set up a showdown with Westminster on Friday and Saturday for the fourth seed in the SLIAC tournament.

In game one, the Panthers limited Blackburn to a single first inning run in the 3-1 victory.

Greenville went ahead 1-0 in the top of the first inning. Drew Frey singled to lead off the game, then advanced to second on a wild pitch and stole third before Landon Mokris knocked him in with an RBI groundout.

Blackburn tied the score in the bottom half of the first.

In the top of the sixth, Logan Garrick walked with the bases loaded to give GU a run, and Frey later produced a sacrifice fly.

Luke Fleener and Craig Oertel combined to hold Blackburn to the one run. Fleener gained the win, pitching six innings and allowing one run on seven hits. Oertel received the save with a scoreless inning of work.

Greenville built a 9-0 lead through five and a half innings of game two and captured a 13-5 win.

The Panthers received two or more hits from five members of its lineup, headlined by Drew Frey with a 4-for-6 game. Frey scored three and drove in a run.

Mokris went 3-for-4 with a run scored and four RBI.

Dustin Sutton, Josh McGovern, and Rhett Pennington all had two hits.

Ian Wilson won the game on the mound for the Panthers with six innings. He allowed three runs on seven hits and one walk with five strikeouts.

Seth Burnham permitted three runs in one and one-third innings, but Chad Plath closed the game with one and two-thirds scoreless innings.

The Panthers (8-25, 8-16 SLIAC) will host Westminster on Friday at 6 p.m. in a doubleheader. If Greenville wins three or four games in the season-ending series, they will likely clinch the No. 4 seed in the upcoming SLIAC tournament.
