Football dominates Crown in 32-6 win

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - The football team defeated Crown 32-6 on Saturday in UMAC action.

After receiving the opening kickoff, the Panthers were held to a three-and-out on their first possession and were forced to punt. However, Greenville's punt team forced a fumble on the return and recovered the ball at the C49.

GU couldn't establish any offense on their possession as Crown forced a three-and-out and got the ball right back.

When the Panthers stopped Crown after three plays, Greenville took over at the G31 but were only able to make one first down before punting back to the Storm.

The Panther defense stood up to the challenge and got GU the ball back at the GU43. After six plays taking 63 seconds, Christian Moss capped the drive with a 13 yard touchdown run. Rafael Soares de Castro completed the extra point, and Greenville held a 7-0 lead.

The 7-0 score held through the end of the first quarter.

At the end of the first quarter, Greenville took over the ball on the C11 when the GU punt return team tackled the punter for a 14 yard loss.

Two plays later Isaih Ibarra caught a nine yard pass from George Harris, and the kick by Soares de Castro was blocked to make the score 13-0 with 14:56 remaining in the first half.

Before the end of the half, Paul Garrett broke off a 65 yard touchdown run, and Soares de Castro made the PAT. GU carried a 20-0 lead at the half.

Midway through the third quarter, the Panthers used a drive lasting five minutes and seven seconds to score another touchdown. Greenville capped the 11-play series when Robert Regans caught a 10 yard pass from Harris for the TD, and the extra point was blocked.

In the fourth quarter, Garrett rushed for a six yard touchdown, and the kick failed to give GU a 32-0 lead. With 6:04 left in the game, Crown got on the scoreboard with a touchdown.

Garrett ended the game with 193 rushing yards on 29 carries. Moss managed 51 yards on six attempts.

Harris went 8-of-25 for 85 yards, and Kyler Henson caught three of the passes for 47 yards.

Greenville's defense was led by Brock Buller with 10 tackles and an interception. Gavin Jordan provided nine tackles and an interception.

De'Shon Wellington, Ashton Moultrie, and Jacob Hutchinson also added interceptions.

The Panthers (5-2, 4-1 UMAC) go to MacMurray for a game next week at 1 p.m.
