Football routs Concordia Chicago for 1-0 start

RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The football season could not have started any better for the Panthers. Greenville collected a 41–14 win over Concordia Chicago in their first game of the season.

The opening kick off set the tone for the game when Quintral Clay returned the ball 95 yards for a kickoff return touchdown. That was the only scoring play the Panthers would have in the first quarter.

Greenville received two touchdowns in the second quarter. Paul Garrett pushed the ball in from one yard out with 9:22 remaining, and Matthew Tiger had a two yard run for a touchdown with 1:36 to play in the first half.

In the third quarter, Greenville collected two defensive touchdowns on the first two possessions. Dwayne Garrett caught an interception and returned it 18 yards for a touchdown.

On the second possession, Isaiah Hayes carried the ball 38 yards for a fumble return touchdown.

In the fourth quarter, Concordia added two touchdowns, and the Panthers posted the final touchdown of the game with 2:26 to play on Cayden Boardway's six yard TD run.

Despite the final score, Greenville only outgained Concordia 307-279.

Paul Garrett ran the ball 11 times for 68 yards, and Adrian Hinton carried the ball eight times for 65 yards.

Peyton Bates completed 7-of-20 passes for 64 yards and two interceptions.

Braeden Wells led the defensive unit with 12 tackles, including one sack. Thomas Linnear also sacked the quaterback.

The Panthers (1-0) host Eureka on Saturday at 12 p.m. in Greenville at Greenville High School's Don Stout Field.
