JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The men's basketball team ended on the short side of a 164-156 decision at MacMurray on Wednesday night.
The Panthers held a lead by as many as nine points in the first half, but MacMurray managed to take an 83-77 lead to halftime.
In the second half, the Panthers took a 129-121 lead with 9:24 to go, and Greenville still maintained a 139-132 advantage with 5:46 left in the game.
Rakim Murphy made a layup to give GU a 153-152 lead with 1:53 remaining, but MacMurray took the lead soon thereafter as they outscored Greenville 12-3 over the rest of the game.
Williams was Greenville's top scorer with 24 points on 11-of-17 field goals and 2-of-2 free throws.
Austyn Contreras posted a 21 point game, and Sontiago Grady ended with 19 points. Murphy had 17 points.
Kameron Vinsel and Murphy were GU's top rebounders with six, and Grady had a team-high six assists.
Quincy Pinkard posted three of Greenville's 19 steals that came on 35 turnovers by MacMurray.
The Panthers (4-8, 3-2 SLIAC) host Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday at 3 p.m.
