Men's basketball maintains lead in SLIAC with 146-143 win over Eureka

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's basketball team used a come-from-behind effort to take a 146-143 win over Eureka on Wednesday night in H.J. Long Gymnasium.

The Panthers never led in the first half as they trailed 81-76 and faced a deficit that reached as many as 11 points.

Greenville gradually chipped away at their deficit and took a two-point lead at 119-117 when Sontiago Grady sank a three-pointer with 7:38 left in the game.

Over the next five minutes, the teams exchanged the lead back and forth, but a four-point play by Riley Simmons gave Greenville a 140-137 advantage with 2:07 remaining on the clock. Eureka got as close as one point behind, but the Panthers held the lead through the remainder of the game.

The game featured seven ties and 15 lead changes. Greenville never led by more than three points at any time.

The Panthers managed to hold on to the ball, only committing 12 turnovers, while their suffocating defense forced 35 Eureka turnovers. The Panthers had 45 points off the Red Devils turnovers.
