ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The men's basketball team had an opportunity to pull ahead of Webster in the SLIAC standings with a win on Wednesday, but Greenville took a 125-121 loss on the road.

With memories of Greenville's December victory over the Gorloks on their mind, Webster jumped ahead of GU 57-41 after the first half and managed to win the game despite allowing the Panthers to overcome the deficit in the second half.

The Panthers held a 25-18 lead early in the game and didn't regain the advantage until a pair of free throws by Rakim Murphy gave them a 96-94 lead with 8:26 remaining in the game.

Greenville fell back behind but took the lead again with 3:17 left after a jumper by Marvin Bateman made the score 112-111. That was the final lead for the Panthers, and Webster closed the game on a 14-9 run for the win.

Sontiago Grady finished as GU's top scorer with 24 points on 8-of-18 shooting from the field, 5-of-13 three pointers, and 3-of-3 free throws.

Eric Williams also reached 20 points.

Bateman ended with 17 points, and Riley Simmons had 16 points.

Simmons also led GU with seven rebounds and tied Grady for the top mark with four steals.

Grady and Austyn Contreras each produced six assists.

The Panthers (8-10, 7-4 SLIAC) host Fontbonne on Saturday at 3 p.m. as they attempt to pull into a second place tie with Fontbonne.
