Men's basketball holds second place alone in SLIAC with win over Spalding

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's basketball team took possession of second place in the SLIAC standings on Thursday night with a 140-119 win over Spalding.

The men opened the game with an 11-6 lead which forced an early 30-second timeout from Spalding.

At halftime, the Panthers held a commanding 84-56 lead.

In the early moments of the second half, Greenville pushed their advantage to 31 at 102-71 with 15:54 to go in the game. The Panthers led by as many as 35 points in the game.

Spalding didn't give up and worked their way back to a 20 point difference, but Greenville stepped up and ended with with a 23-point win.

Sontiago Grady was GU's top scorer with 23 points. He was followed by Kameron Vinsel with 18 points and Riley Simmons with 17 points. Simmons also registered eight steals.

Austyn Contreras had 15 points, and Eric Williams and Marvin Bateman each added 14 points.

Williams was Greenville's top rebound and assist man with eight boards and five assists.

The Panthers evened their season record at 10-10 (9-4 SLIAC) on a night when Fontbonne lost to Webster to slip to third place and leave Greenville all alone in second place.
