Men's basketball falls to first place Blackburn

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's basketball team faced the conference's first place Blackburn squad on Tuesday night and suffered a 119-99 setback.

The Panthers played catchup for much of the evening after falling behind 58-49 after the first half and failing to regain the lead in the second half.

The Beavers outshot the Panthers 59.8% to 36.7% from the field and outrebounded GU by a 66-47 margin.

The Panthers managed to force 29 Blackburn turnovers, but they only shot 12-of-54 behind the three-point line as the turnovers advantage did not translate into scoring success.

The Panthers were led in scoring by Tyler Jelks with a 17 point evening. Travis Dickey posted 16 points, and Jarred Johnson and Ralph Jalnaiz each had 13 points.

Jelks joined Jalnaiz as the top assist men with five each. Dickey ended as the leading rebounder with eight and was tops in steals with four.

The Panthers (3-10, 3-3 SLIAC) host Spalding on Saturday in H.J. Long Gymnasium.
