SPOKANE, Wash. - The men's basketball team traveled to the northwest for a pair of scheduled games at Whitworth on Friday and Saturday of their opening weekend. The Panthers dropped Friday's game 146-110 as Whitworth took control of the game in the first half and captured the win.
Kenneth Cooley opened Greenville's season with a game-high 31 points, making 12-of-18 field goals, including 4-of-7 three pointers, and 3-of-5 free throws.
Everett Campbell was the second leading scorer in his debut with 17 points, and Cam Irvin followed with 15 points.
Whitworth led 70-48 after the first half, and Greenville played them tighter in the second half while still falling short 76-62.
Darryl Skinner added a team-leading seven rebounds for GU, and Romello Ball contributed five assists.
Ball and Cooley each had three of Greenville's 19 steals.
The Panthers (0-1) will play Pacific (Oregon) on Saturday also in Spokane.
