Men's basketball drops game against conference favorite Blackburn

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's basketball team played Blackburn on Saturday at home and were topped 114-91 by the Beavers.

Greenville hit a rough spell early in the game as Blackburn raced out to a 20-6 lead in the first seven and a half minutes.

The Panthers pulled it back to just a 10 point deficit at halftime when the Beavers carried a 56-46 lead into the locker room.

Early in the second half, a three-pointer by Chris Jackson closed the gap to six at 60-54, but the Beavers quickly brought their lead back up to double figures for the remainder of the game.

Greenville was led in the scorebook by Jarred Johnson who provided 20 points. Kaidyn Johnson, who also played in the starting unit, ended with 14 points, and starter Cam Irvin tallied 11 points.

Travis Dickey also reached double figures with 10 points in only eight minutes of action.

GU's leading rebounder was Jackson with six, and Jarred Johnson added a team-high five steals as the Panthers forced 37 Blackburn turnovers.

Jackson and Everett Campbell passed out a team-leading four assists.

The Panthers (1-16, 0-6 SLIAC) travel to Eureka for a game on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. as their first loop through the conference schedule will conclude.
