Men's basketball gains third straight win to end regular season on high note

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's basketball team kept their season-ending winning streak alive with an unusually low-scoring 84-83 win over Spalding in H.J. Long Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. Prior to the game, GU honored seniors Chris Jackson, Henry Johnson, Zach Nabers, Kenneth Cooley, and Dalton Bloemer.

Bloemer, who has served as a team manager for four years, suited up on the varsity team for the first time in his career and hit Greenville's opening three pointer as the team and crowd roared in approval.

Trenton Lee finished as GU's top scorer with 13 points in the game.

Julius Erby, Kaidyn Johnson, and Travis Dickey each had 12 points, and Cooley provided 10 points.

Erby was Greenville's leading rebounder with six, and Romello Ball was GU's leader in assists and co-leader in steals with eight assists and three steals. Everett Campbell, Lee, and Kaidyn Johnson also added three steals.

The Panthers were trailing 45-37 at halftime but reversed their fortunes in the second half with a 47-38 advantage.

The Panthers (5-20, 4-10 SLIAC) finished eighth in the SLIAC standings, and they will face top-seeded SLIAC regular season champion Fontbonne on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Clayton.
