Men's track and field opens outdoor season at Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The men's track and field team placed third of six teams at Saturday's meet at Rose-Hulman.

Hunter Matthews was second in the high jump at 6-3 and was a part of the winning 4x100 meter relay team that also included Di'Mond Salmond, Carson Rantanen, and Jared Beyers.  The relay team completed the race in 42.88 seconds.

Rantanen was a winner in the 100 (11.01 seconds) while Salmond was second in the 100 (11.43), third in the triple jump (41-10), and fifth in the 200 (23.54).

Beyers was second in the 400 with a season best of 50.45 seconds.

Dylan Webster won the pole vault with a school record jump of 14-0, and Wesley Kile was fourth at 13-0.

Justin Miller finished second with a throw of 140-8 in his first outing in the javelin.

The Panthers ran well in both the 800 and 1500.  The men were led by Gianni Roberts who ran 4:09.87 for fourth.

Next week, the team will be split with the distance runners traveling to the SLIAC cross country championships in Litchfield, Ill., at the Litchfield Country Club while the sprinters, jumpers, and throwers will compete at Washington University in St Louis.
