Men's volleyball attack led by Black in Friday split

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's volleyball team played their first home matches of the young season and lost a three-set match to Concordia Chicago before dominating Rockford in a three-set victory.

In the Panthers opening match, the men lost 25-17, 25-21, 25-15 to a Concordia Chicago squad that collected their second three-set win of the afternoon. Concordia had defeated Fontbonne prior to the match against Greenville.

Greenville recorded 12 kills on 34 swings in the second set with five errors, hitting .206 in the set. However, Concordia was up for the challenge with a 14/1/30/.433 performance.

Overall, Greenville ended with a 30/26/95/.042 line.

George Black produced 15.5 points for Greenville with 15 kills and one block assist.

Alejandro Condoy posted 13 assists and seven digs in the match.

In Greenville's 25-11, 25-17, 25-12 win over Rockford, the Panthers controlled the match.

The Panthers opened with a tremendous first set that saw them end with a 16/1/22/.682 hitting performance.

Greenville slipped to 7/3/29/.138 in the second set before rebounding to 10/3/22/.318 in the final set.

Again, Black led Greenville with 20 points, gathering 16 kills, three service aces, and one solo block.

Condoy was the top assist man with 14.

Ryan Nelson added 19 digs on defense, and Condoy joined him in double figures with 11 digs.

The match featured a nine point run by Greenville in the first set and a 13-0 stretch to start the final set.

The Panthers (1-5) will return to the court on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at home against former MCVL rival Fontbonne.
