Men's cross country earns 16th SLIAC championship

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The men's cross country team won their 16th SLIAC championship and fourth consecutive title at E.P. Sawyer State Park on Saturday.

Dylan Goodyear, a senior from Wentzville, Mo., collected his second SLIAC conference championship when he finished the eight kilometer race in 25:56. He was 12 seconds ahead of the runner up.

Dylon Niswonger took the third position in the race with a time of 26:08, and he was less than one second behind the runner up.

Collin Kessinger came in fifth overall when he completed the race in 26:17.

Lucas Baird and Noah Dir recorded the final two scoring positions for Greenville with the 13th and 14th place marks, respectively. Baird posted a time of 27:38, and Dir clocked a 27:39.

The Panthers compiled 36 points to defeat Spalding by 10 points.

Following the race, Goodyear, Niswonger, and Kessinger were named to the SLIAC all-conference first team, and Baird and Dir received second team honors. Niswonger also represented Greenville on the All-Sportsmanship team. Head coach Brian Patton received the coach of the year award.

The Panthers will return to action on Nov. 16 at the NCAA midwest regional in Winneconne, Wis.
