Softball leads early, surrenders game at Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The softball team opened their 2020 season with an 8-2 loss to Rhodes on Friday.

Greenville posted a run in the first inning when Deidra Holzhauer delivered a run-scoring single.

Rhodes answered with run in the bottom of the second when they received a solo home run, but the Panthers came right back, taking a 2-1 lead with Maegan Stone's infield RBI single.

In the bottom of the fourth, Rhodes' bats came alive as they scored two runs in each of their next two innings and three in the sixth.

Olivia Shipman, Holzhauer, Stone, and Jaclyn Belzer all had two hits for Greenville.

Morgan Wendling started the game in the circle and pitched a scoreless first inning.

Kendall Farr went three innings, allowing three runs, and Holzhauer permitted five runs in her two innings of work.

The Panthers (0-1) play Rhodes in a doubleheader on Saturday.
