Softball opens with losses to DePauw

DECATUR, Ill. - The softball team started their 2021 season with a pair of losses to DePauw at a neutral site doubleheader on the campus of Millikin.  Greenville lost the first game 14-0 in five innings before a 15-5 loss in five innings of game two.

In game one, Greenville allowed four runs in the first, one run in the third, five in the fourth, and four in the fifth.

Greenville had three hits in the game. Olivia Shipman and Desirae Yost ended with singles, and Katie Myers stroked a double.

Maegan Stone started in the circle and allowed five runs, two earned, in three innings. Stone was saddled with the loss to drop to 0-1 on the season.

Kendall Farr pitched two innings and issued nine runs, five earned, with three strikeouts.

In game two, the Panther bats were more awake, but DePauw still ended up on top.

DePauw set the tone with a six run top of the first, but the Panthers scored twice when Yost tripled to drive in one run and Hannah Hoffman had an RBI infield single.

The Tigers made the score 9-2 in the top of the second and 11-2 in the top of the third before Greenville added three in the bottom of the third.

In GU's three-run third, Hoffman and Hayley Jenkins provided RBI doubles, and Myers added a sacrifice fly.

Yost and Hoffman each finished with a pair of hits for GU, and Yost scored twice. Hoffman provided two RBI.

Alison Klaus drew the start in the circle and allowed 11 runs in three innings as her pitching record fell to 0-1.

Stone finished the game and allowed two runs on five hits over two innings.

The Panthers (0-2) play Buena Vista on Monday, March 5, at 11 a.m. in a doubleheader.
