Softball earns first wins of 2021 season

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The softball team recorded a doubleheader sweep over Rose-Hulman on Saturday to give head coach Angela Sheets her first collegiate coaching victories.  Greenville won the first game 3-0 and the second game 10-5.

In game one, Greenville received a one-hit pitching performance from Kendall Farr for the win.  She struck out four and walked two.

In the second inning, Olivia Shipman gave Greenville a 2-0 lead with a two run homer.

The Panthers added a run in the fourth inning on an RBI single from Katie Myers.

Greenville opened game two with a run in the first inning and four runs in the third as they built a 5-0 lead.

Rose-Hulman cut the deficit to 5-3 in the fourth inning, but the Panthers scored twice in the top of the fifth to make it a 7-3 ballgame.

The Engineers posted two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but that was the closest they managed to get against GU as the Panthers put the game away with three runs in the top of the seventh.

Maegan Stone and Hannah Hoffmann both went 3-for-4 for Greenville in the contest.  Stone and Desirae Yost each scored three runs.

Farr was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, and five RBI.

Stone pitched all seven innings, giving up five runs, four earned, on six hits and two walks while striking out four.

The Panthers (2-6) continue their season on Tuesday with a trip to Blackburn for a doubleheader.
