GREENVILLE, Ill. - The softball team returned to action in their first home doubleheader since March 8 and split a pair of games against Fontbonne. Greenville dropped the first game 11-8 before coming back and taking game two by a 3-2 final score.
In game one, Greenville allowed Fontbonne to take a 6-0 lead in the first inning before mounting a furious comeback that saw the Panthers score eight times over their final three innings.
Greenville's scoring began in the fifth inning when Desirae Yost hit a three-run homer to cut Fontbonne's lead to 6-3.
Fontbonne answered right back with a five run top of the sixth to establish an 11-3 lead.
With their backs against the wall and needing to score to extend the game, Greenville posted two runs in the bottom of the sixth when Morgan Wendling and Maegan Stone provided RBI singles.
In the bottom of the seventh, Greenville's Hayley Jenkins scored on a wild pitch, and Katie Myers and Jaclyn Belzer provided RBI singles.
Stone finished the game 3-for-5 in the batters box with a run scored and an RBI.
Olivia Shipman went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and Wendling was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
Kendall Farr was Greenville's starting pitcher, and she worked just one-third of an inning before being lifted for Alison Klaus.
Farr gave up all six of the first inning runs, four earned, on five hits.
Klaus worked six and two-thirds of an inning and permitted five runs, three earned on nine hits and five walks while fanning six batters.
Game two saw Stone pitch a complete game four-hitter while only allowing two runs on four hits and two walks. She struck out three.
Greenville scored a first inning run on a sacrifice fly by Yost, and Farr managed to hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning.
After Fontbonne scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning to tie the game, Hannah Hoffmann singled up the middle to plate a runner, and the Panthers held the lead.
Belzer went 2-for-2 in game two with a run scored.
Hoffmann, Farr, Shipman, and Myers each added one hit in game two.
The Panthers (4-8, 2-2 SLIAC) travel to Washington University on Tuesday for a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
