Softball drops two at Central in Iowa

PELLA, Iowa - The softball team suffered a pair of losses at Central College in Iowa on Thursday afternoon. Greenville lost a shortened game 10-2 in game one, and Central picked up a walk-off 3-2 win in game two.

The Panthers fell behind 1-0 after one inning and 4-0 after three innings in the first game before scoring their first runs.

Greenville put two runs on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth when they received an RBI single from Olivia Shipman and a run-scoring sacrifice bunt by Morgan Wendling.

The Dutch ended the contest with six runs in the bottom of the sixth, reaching the eight-run mercy rule margin of victory.

Pitcher Maegan Stone allowed all 10 runs on 14 hits in more than five innings of work.

Stone, Hayley Jenkins, and Shipman produced GU's three hits.

In game two, the Panthers trailed 2-0 after the first inning and 3-0 after five innings.

Greenville battled back, gaining an RBI single from Hannah Hoffmann in the top of the sixth before a game-tying two run home run blast by Kendall Farr.

In the bottom of the seventh, Central won the game with a run.

Farr finished 2-for-3 in the game. Jaclyn Belzer, Desirae Yost, Hoffmann, Emma Deters, and Katie Myers each had one hit.

Farr went the distance in the circle, throwing six and two-thirds of an inning and allowing four runs on nine hits.

The Panthers (4-11) continue their trip to Iowa with a doubleheader at Iowa Wesleyan on Friday afternoon.
