Softball splits SLIAC DH at Iowa Wesleyan

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa - The softball team split a pair of game against Iowa Wesleyan on Friday in Iowa. GU won the first game 6-3 and dropped the second game 3-1.

In game one, the Panthers struck immediately with a run in the top of the first. Hannah Hoffmann had an RBI single to left field to plate Jaclyn Belzer.

In the top of the third, Hoffmann lined out to center field for a sacrifice fly, and Belzer scored for a second time.

Iowa Wesleyan tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the third and took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth.

In the top of the fifth, Kendall Farr hit a ball to the second baseman, and it was misplayed and resulted in two Greenville runs.

Hoffmann provided an RBI triple in the top of the seventh, and Farr had an RBI single.

Maegan Stone picked up the win, throwing all seven innings and allowed three runs on five hits.

Hoffmann finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, and Farr was 2-for-4 with three RBI.

In game two, Greenville was held to three hits in Iowa Wesleyan's 3-1 win.

IWU went on top in the bottom of the first with a run, but Greenville answered in the top of the third with an RBI single from Stone.

In the bottom of the third, the Tigers added a pair of runs.

Farr finished the game 2-for-2 and pitched all six innings, allowing three runs on four hits with five strikeouts.

The Panthers (5-12, 2-2 SLIAC) host Webster on Tuesday at 4 p.m. on Panther Field.
