Softball takes one of two over Webster

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The softball team split a non-conference doubleheader against Webster on Tuesday afternoon. Greenville lost the first game 8-4 before winning the night cap 2-1.

In game one, the Panthers took an early 1-0 advantage with an RBI single from Hannah Hoffmann in the bottom of the first inning.

Webster produced a three-run frame in the second inning, followed by two run in the third inning.

Desirae Yost launched a home run to left field in the bottom of the third, and Hayley Jenkins delivered an RBI single to make the score 5-3.

Webster pushed their lead back to five runs with a three-run home run in the top of the fourth, and the game remained scoreless thereafter until Yost crushed her second home run of the game in the seventh inning.

Designated player Kendall Farr led Greenville with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, and Hoffmann and Yost were both 2-for-4.

Maegan Stone pitched the first four innings, allowing eight runs, five earned, on nine hits with two strikeouts.

Alison Klaus worked three innings and only permitted a hit and a walk while fanning two batters.

Game two went to Greenville 2-1 in just 76 minutes as Klaus worked the complete game win. She pitched seven innings while allowing one run on six hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Greenville received an RBI double from Olivia Shipman and an RBI single from Katie Myers in the bottom of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead, and the Gorloks scored their run in the top of the fourth.

The Panthers (6-13) host Blackburn on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in a SLIAC doubleheader.
