Softball splits two more with Blackburn

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The softball team split their conference doubleheader with Blackburn on Wednesday afternoon.

Greenville lost game one by an 8-4 final score. Head coach Angela Sheets gave the starting nod to Maegan Stone who pitched the complete game. She allowed eight runs, six earned, on 13 hits and one walk. She struck out a career-high seven in the game.

Greenville allowed single runs in the second, fourth, and fifth innings to fall behind 3-0 after four and a half innings.

In the bottom of the fifth, Jaclyn Belzer delivered an RBI double, Stone punched an RBI single up the middle, and Kendall Farr added an RBI double down the right field line to knot up the score at 3-all.

A five run seventh inning by Blackburn was too much for the Panthers to overcome, but Farr tried to jumpstart the offense with a solo home run in the seventh.

Farr finished 3-of-4 with a run scored and two RBI.

Belzer, Stone, and Hannah Hoffmann all recorded two hits.

In game two, Alison Klaus pitched a one-hitter for Greenville in GU's five-inning 8-0 win. Klaus fanned six in her five innings of work.

In GU's half of the first inning, Olivia Shipman worked a bases-loaded walk to give GU a 1-0 lead.

In the third inning, Farr provided a two-run single, and the Panthers exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth to give them the needed differential of eight runs for a shortened game.

In the fourth inning, Stone had an RBI single, and Desirae Yost smashed a two-run double to left field.

The Panthers added more in the fifth with RBI doubles from Hoffmann and Farr.

Farr ended 2-for-2 with three RBI. Hoffmann contributed a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.

The Panthers (7-14, 3-3 SLIAC) continue their busy week on Friday with a doubleheader at Fontbonne.
