Softball sweeps Eureka in non-conference doubleheader

EUREKA, Ill - The softball team returned to action after a three-week layoff and grabbed victories in both ends of Friday's doubleheader at Eureka. The Panthers won game one 5-3 and followed that with a 10-4 victory in game two.

The Panthers received a complete game pitching effort from Maegan Stone in game one in taking the win. Stone worked all seven innings, allowing three runs on eight hits.

Eureka took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but Greenville scored four runs in the third and one in the fourth before allowing the Red Devils to score twice in the bottom of the seventh.

The Panthers received an RBI double from Stone in the third inning, and Hannah Hoffmann had a two-run single. Greenville added its final run of the third on a Kendall Farr RBI fielder's choice.

In the fifth inning, Desirae Yost delivered an RBI fielder's choice.

Stone, Morgan Wendling, and Jaclyn Belzer all recorded two hits in the game.

In game two, the Panthers scored in every inning and limited Eureka to four runs in their win.

Olivia Shipman led Greenville in game two with a 3-for-5 hitting performance and three RBI.

Belzer was 3-for-4, and Yost went 2-for-5.

Farr pitched the first four innings, only allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits.

Farr yielded the circle to Alison Klaus who recorded the save while only permitting one run on three hits.

The Panthers (9-14) will compete in the SLIAC tournament on Tuesday against an opponent to be determined.
