Women's basketball extends winning streak to six

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's basketball team completed their first loop through conference play with a dominating 80-55 win over Eureka in the SLIAC "Game of the Week" on Wednesday.

After a tight first quarter, Greenville led the six-person Eureka squad 24-20. Hannah Krukewitt and Madelyn Stephen paced Greenville with four points each in the opening stanza.

In the second quarter, Greenville maintained their lead and pushed the advantage to 37-32 at halftime. Ashley Anderson provided eight points for Greenville in the opening half.

Throughout the first five minutes of the third quarter, the Panthers went on a 19-6 run to take a 56-38 lead and force a Eureka timeout. However, the timeout didn't help the Red Devils, and they only scored two more points in the quarter as GU outpaced them 30-8 over the period to end up on top 67-40 after three quarters.

In the final period, the Panthers scored 13 points and allowed 15 points by the Red Devils, but it was inconsequential in Greenville's victory.

Greenville's leading scorer was Emily Reinneck with 15 points, and Hannah Krukewitt recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Brittany Lopez and Haven Robertson finished with 12 points each, and Anderson provided 10 points.

Stephen ended with a team-high four assists and four blocked shots.

The Panthers (10-6, 7-2 SLIAC) go to Westminster for a game on Saturday at 1 p.m. as they look to extend their winning streak to seven.
